🥇Outline
It's always hard to start a competition, keep people engaged, and not have people get disheartened about something because they joined late.
This forum technically launched around the ass end of Week 5, although I've been testing things since Week 3. That means that some of the stats for the season are a little bit out of whack, as I personally have about a 150 pick head start on everyone else, meaning that a simple W-L record may not be sufficient for determining season champions1.
With this in mind, I propose the following, and welcome your thoughts:
🏆 Overall Aggregated Pick 'Em Standings (Standard Edition)
Players will be eligible for the season competition, and will be ranked by aggregated by percentage, based upon:
Completing a minimum of 250 Standard Picks over the course of the season over a minimum of 4 weeks.
For weeks to count, a minimum of 25 games must be selected, in order to avoid a situation where people simply select the easy results to choose from, and ignore the more 'close' competition games.
For Bowl Mania, this will be counted as a simple W-L scenario, encouraging players to pick across all bowl games, and a separate prize will be awarded.
🏆 UK:CFC Confidence 10 Aggregated Pick 'Em Standings
As this is a game where you need some form of full participation in order to complete a week, players will be eligible as follows
Completing a minimum of 4 weeks worth of UK:CFC Confidence 10 Pick 'Em results.
Where there are ties, an aggregated total of tie-breaker scores will be used to determine a position. This will be for ALL weeks participated in, in theory meaning that the more frequently you play, the better the chances is to score a more 'rounded' tie breaker score2.
This aims to make things fair for members across the season, whilst also encouraging new participation as the season progresses. At present, the game is scheduled to end after the conference championship games, however there may be the option to run a separate Bowl Mania / CFP competition, depending on how well our re-purposed BCS Computer works post-season.
💬 Conclusions
Hopefully this makes sense, and will encourage both current and new participation over the course of the season (Invite a friend and make some additional rivals! The server can take it!). 4 Weeks seems the most realistic option as it still allows an 'off week' for people where this thing called life continues to exist, and if things need altering down the line, I'll always review based on hard stats, not just finger in the air consideration.
As always, any questions / complaints, please comment below. I'm always open to ideas and suggestions!
🖊️ Notes
1 Even though I personally have no control over who wins games, I always feel it unfair for an organiser to win prizes, especially for the UK:CFC Conference 10 Pick 'Em game where I have control over which games will be on the docket each week. Therefore, I will abstain from any prizes, even though I will continue to be included in statistics.
2 As a reminder, the tie breaker rules for the UK:CFC Confidence 10 Game is the total number of points scored by BOTH TEAMS in a featured game of the week. This will create a + / - score for each week, which will be averaged out as the total number of points away from the total in each given week in final calculations.
