BACKGROUND
We started with a standard Pick 'Em, which allows you to select who you think will win each of the 50 odd FBS Matchups on any given week. It's fun, it's functional and it works, but it was just a bit long winded. (Note: You don't HAVE to select all options, it just helps in the rankings selecting more games).
I've been working really closely with my friendly resident Extension builder (And Alabama supporter) ErnestDefoe, and as well as him helping me implement some things, we've been bouncing some ideas back and forth. He actually runs an FBS Focused website running the same codebase, so when one comes up with an idea, we can benefit each other. So yes people. I'm working with an Alabama fan. Don't mention the Rose Bowl; I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it!
One of the things I suggested was taking the 'confidence' function that is built into the codebase but not used in our standard game, and merge that with what ESPN do with their CFB Fantasy Game. They have 10 odd games, sure, but it's a click click go sort of activation. I've often done my picks within 2 minutes, then forget about things for a couple of weeks.
INTRODUCING: UK:CFC CONFIDENCE 10!
The outcome of this is what I hope will be one of the more enjoyable Pick'Em games out there. Each week, the hamster wheel which powers this site will either generate me a nice list of the biggest game of the week, or on weeks such as SEC Cupcake Week, I'll unleash a world of chaos. There could even be the odd FCS / DII game... There is the codebase to do it!
The premise is simple:
Pick who you think will win each of the 10 games each week.
Rank how confident you are in your choices, from your 'Certain win' to 'Could we have a field rush upset'.
Wait till Sunday, see how you did. You get 10 points if your #1 ranked choice wins, down to 1 point for your #10 ranked for every correct pick.
There is one LITTLE quirk, just to add a bit more fun. If for some reason one of your picks loses, not only will you receive no positive points, you will LOSE half the points compared to your confidence selection. So if your #1 choice somehow gets the L, you will LOSE 5 points to your total.
Points are generated automatically by a repurposed BCS Scoring machine. No human interaction at all.
HOW TO PLAY?
Simple. Just head to the Pick 'Em Games section of the site.
Good luck!
